Seeigel- Echinoids

I am a German collector of recent echinoids and interested in contacts with other collectors (or sellers). The links on this page are directed to inventories of my regular and irregular tests and my duplicates as well. The duplicates are rather for trading than for selling.

Unknown or uncertain taxa

It is well known, that it is sometimes difficult to find out the correct taxa for tests bought in souvenir or shell shops or via an auction, especially if locality, spines and apical plates are missing. Therefore I ask the experts to have a look at the mentioned specimens (and of course at all others) and to tell me their opinion.

Question 8:  What is the Strongylocentrotus species? A juvenile purpuratus? Gulf of Texas?

1. Answer:    Probably a juvenile purpuratus.

2. Answer:    As there are no Strongylocentrotidae in the Gulf of Texas, the specimen is rather from California and then a purpuratus.

Question 10: What is the Laganum species?

Question 12: This test came to me via an ebay auction. The only details were: off Taiwan, 84 m, by fishermen. My investigation led me to Selenechinus armatus and one expert confirmed in the meantime, that it is at least close to Selenechinus. Is there anyone else, who can confirm it or tell me another idea?

Question 15: This question concerns to specimens, the first one (upper picture) has been labeled Arbacia punctulata, the second one (lower picture) has been without detailed data. In my opinion is at least the second one a true A. punctulata. The other has a smaller naked aboral zone, apparently a lower plate number and five anal plates (may occur in rare cases or may be a feature of deep water species). What say the experts?

Question 16:Bought as Metalia species. But which??

Question 17: I got some species unknown to me. Please, have a look and inform me, if you have information (Conolampas species).

Question 18: Some different Cidarids from the Philippines are waiting for their taxa. Who can help? ( Cidarid species 1, Cidarid species 2, Cidarid species 3, Cidarid species 5, Cidaric species 8, Cidarid species 12, Cidarid species 14)
