When reading Mortensen, A Monograph of the Echinoidea, I., Cidaroidea, 1928, page 242 ff., one remarks, that Mortensen introduced rubra as variation of Stereocidaris granularis with a red colour on test and spines. Here the test is reddish but the spines are not. As Mortensen mentioned 16 different species and some variations of the genus Stereocidaris, it is easily possible, that the genus has been re-examined in the meantime. Does anyone know more details? See also Stereocidaris granularis var. rubra. |
